Donation of 200 pads and provision of critical education to girls of Makupula High School

Lady Talk Matters (LTM),  recently partnered with Makupula Secondary School to address an essential aspect of adolescent health and education: menstrual health.

Recognising the need to support young girls during their transition into womanhood, we embarked on a mission to donate 200 reusable packs of pads to grade 8 students at Makupula Secondary School. Additionally, we engaged in conversations with both girls and boys to provide comprehensive education on puberty, the biology of menstruation, and menstrual hygiene practices.

Promoting Menstrual Health Education:

Understanding the significance of menstrual health education, Lady Talk Matters conducted informative and interactive sessions at Makupula Secondary School. The aim was to equip students with knowledge and dispel myths and taboos surrounding menstruation. Wendy Ncapa engaged with girls and boys, creating safe spaces for open discussions.

For the girls, the sessions covered topics such as the biological process of menstruation, menstrual hygiene practices, common misconceptions, and ways to manage menstruation with dignity. LTM ambassadors also emphasised the importance of destigmatizing menstruation and fostering an environment of support and empathy.

Engaging Boys in the Conversation:

Recognising the crucial role boys play in promoting menstrual health and gender equality, Lady Talk Matters extended the conversation to include male students. LTM ambassadors conducted separate sessions for boys, focusing on topics like understanding menstruation, empathy towards female peers, and the significance of breaking menstrual taboos. By engaging boys in these discussions, LTM aimed to foster a sense of understanding, promoting an inclusive environment that encourages respectful dialogue and support for girls.

Reusable Pad Donations:

Complementing the educational sessions, Lady Talk Matters donated 200 reusable packs of pads to grade 8 students at Makupula Secondary School. These reusable packs not only address the issue of menstrual hygiene but also promote sustainability and economic empowerment. By providing reusable pads, LTM aimed to ensure that girls have access to hygienic menstrual products while reducing their environmental impact and long-term expenses.
